Solving the climate crisis that threatens life as we know it will require an overhaul of the financial system. We Have the POWER is pleased to support responsible investment charity ShareAction’s work harnessing the power of the financial system to hold companies and banks to account on their climate impacts.
ShareAction assesses the fossil fuel policies of the biggest investors, banks and insurers and challenges them to go further. They also coordinate investors to file shareholder resolutions to be voted on at company AGMs: in 2020, they co-filed a proposal alongside an investor group worth $2.4trillion and over 100 individual shareholders at Europe’s second largest financier of fossil fuels, HSBC. In response, the bank made landmark commitments on coal financing and alignment with the Paris climate agreement.
